The History Of The Diet To Lose Weight In A Week

No “miracle” diet based on the consumption of one or a restricted group of foods in a short period of time can provide health benefits.

The diet to lose weight that we will comment on next was a proposal created in 1988 by the staff of the Loma Linda hospital, in California (United States) for overweight patients.

It was a type of diet to be followed for only one week, based on the consumption of vegetables, meat, fruits and proper hydration.

Its main component was the ‘miracle soup’, whose recipe was designed to help morbidly obese patients lose weight, in a healthy but fast way, before undergoing surgery.

The weight loss diet and the ‘miracle’ soup

Over the years, the soup recipe became popular. Especially among those whose desire was to lose weight quickly. In total,  the diet allowed you to lose up to 10 pounds, that is, about 4 and a half kilos.

The bad thing about this diet is that it was not varied, but rather monotonous and poor from a nutritional point of view. It did not include flours, fats, or sugars.

Shortly after adopting it, the body was forced to use energy reserves in the form of fat to be able to carry out its daily functions. As a result, the person was able to lose weight, but was constantly tired and weak.

As mentioned at the beginning, this weight loss diet was not designed for everyone, but for those patients who are overweight and obese (whose health was in danger) and who were about to undergo surgery.

What was intended with this diet was to reduce risks and initiate the process of adopting a healthier lifestyle, in which a balanced, varied and sufficient diet prevailed. However, the objective was not in line with the proposal. How could diet be improved through a restrictive, poor and insufficient diet?

Of course, this diet was highly criticized by the scientific community, given the amount of risks it posed to people’s health and, soon, it was no longer recommended.

Over time, it became clear that this diet was not recommended at all. Not only because it was limiting to a great extent, but because it promised results in too short a period of time, something very risky for health.

Do you want to lose weight? Adopt a healthy diet

To lose weight in a healthy and safe way, you should see your doctor or, failing that, a nutritionist. The professional will know how to tell you what is best for you based on what your body needs.

  • You should never stop eating or make other drastic changes, as they put your health at risk.
  • Before making any changes, it is best to consult with your doctor.

Go to the nutritionist to start a diet.
